Issue of 1938

John Quincy Adams

John Quincy Adams (July 11, 1767 – February 23, 1848) was the sixth President of the United States from March 4, 1825, to March 4, 1829. Adams was the son of the second U.S. president, John Adams. When PresidentGeorge Washington appointed him minister to the Netherlands John Quincy Adams began his career in American politics at the age of twenty-seven years. Adams later served as Secretary of State in the Cabinet of President James Monroe from 1817 until 1825.
  • The engraved image of Adams appears on the orange 6-cent denomination of the 1938 Presidential Series. The engraving was modeled after a bust of Adams displayed in the US Capitol. This is the first US Postage stamp that John Quincy Adams appeared.
  • The next postage stamp Adams appeared on was with the Ameripex '86 issue, honoring all past (and deceased) American Presidents.
